Battle Wagon FAQs

Answers to the questions we are regularly asked.

Do you guys go into the game?

Yes, we have season tickets.

How long have you been tailgating with the Battle Wagon.

Since 1999.

What kind of truck is it?

A 1966 Chevy step van.

Where are you guy from?

We all live in the Twin Cities.

What color is the engine?

Purple and gold, of course. We blew the original engine on the way back from the first game. The mechanic who worked on it had a similar engine from a '72 Nova available. We had the engine painted purple before it was dropped in, then we added yellow spark plug wires.

How did you get the big Vikings logo on the truck?

All the graphics were hand painted by Tom Griffin. He is a huge Vikings fan and a sign painter by trade. We met him while tailgating the first year, before we had any graphics on the truck. Tom also painted the graphics on the  Support Vehicle.

What is the Support Vehicle?

A 1985 Ford F-350 Crew Cab dually. We use it to tow the Battle Wagon to road games and provide mechanical and logistical support. Lately, however, we have been driving the Battle Wagon to road games.

How much did it cost?

We bought the truck from a furniture store for $900. In order to maintain plausible deniability with our spouses and girlfriends, we have made no attempt to keep track of the rest.

Did you know this would make a nice ice fishing house if you cut a hole in the floor?

We've heard that.

Does the fireplace work?

Yes, it is a vent-free, propane fueled unit with a heat output of approximately 28,000 BTUs, which is about 24,000 BTUs more than necessary to heat the Battle Wagon.

Do you go to all the games?

We attend every home game and try to get to a couple road games every season. We have made it to Green Bay for the Packers /  Vikings game for several years running.

How do you get ESPN in here?  I don't see a cable.

There is a retractable satellite dish mounted on the roof. It is made by Winegard  and designed to be used by RVs.

This is really cool. Will you father my children?

Possibly.

Questions about the site

How do I become a member?

Simply click the "Register" link in the Log In form on the left and create a user account. After you fill out the form you will receive an e-mail with a link to activate your account.

Why do I need to register?

Battlewagon.net has many interactive features, including a message board,  guest book, the ability to comment on photos, create and post a user profile, and even upload pictures to you own photo album. Unfortunately,  there are some out there who would take advantage of these features to post spam or otherwise clutter things with useless information. Registration is simply an attempt to make it a little more difficult for these types to mess up the site.

Why do I need to my e-mail address to register?

To prove you are a real person and not a spam generating program. Your e-mail address will not be posted on the web site or disclosed to anyone else. It is only used to send your account activation message. If you are still concerned,  I would suggest creating a free e-mail account with yahoo, hotmail, google, etc. specifically for things like this.

What's in it for me?

In addition to the interactive features mentioned above, some photos will only appear if you are logged in.

How do I comment on photos?

When you are logged in, click the "item action" menu under any picture and select "add comment".

How was this site built?

This site uses the Joomla open source content management system.  Joomla is an off-shoot of the Mambo CMS and is a MySQL and php based web site building system. The photo album pages use Gallery2 from Manalto, which is another open source project. A bridge component is used to tie Gallery into Joomla. In case you're wondering how far I've taken this open source thing, I'm editing this page in my Firefox browser on my PC which is running version 6.10  Ubuntu Linux.
