While Brad Childress didn’t exactly say Brad Johnson was done, a statement like “we have several options at quarterback” isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for the old fellow. With Brooks Bollinger dropping faster than Aaron Rodgers, maybe it’s time to give Tarvaris Jackson a shot. He certainly couldn’t do much worse. And when he does make mistakes, at least it will be needed experience, not the final futile efforts of a washed up quarterback. I like Johnson, he had a good run. But the fat lady is singing and it’s time to move on. Jackson showed some promise in pre-season against 2nd and third string defenses. Let’s see what he can do now. His performance against Chicago was acceptable, considering the circumstances. It was cold, windy, late in the game, with the team behind by two scores. As a third stringer, I can’t imagine he even considered the possibility of having to play. Still, he came in and completed a few passes against a good defense. With a bit of practice with the first string, and thawed extremities, he might do OK. If not, at least we’ll know we have an issue to address this off-season.
